Magnum 18

Smaller and lighter

______

  • The most affordable trimaran in the Virusboats range.

  • It has nearly the same mast height as the MAGNUM 21 and a wider beam yet is only a fraction of its weight. So performance is just stunning.

  • It is safe and stable but with more excitement than its big sister owing to its lower weight and slimmer hulls

  • Unsinkable, it is classified like the MAGNUM 21 in Category C , so you can still be adventurous but not with so many people on board. It can accomodate either three adults or alternatively 2 adults with 2 children in this category or 4 adults in category D, closer in shore.

the benefits of sailing trimarans

  • Todays multihulls offer the only formula that is capable of providing all in one small boat the vital space necessary for both comfort and performance.
  •  This performance enables you to sail far further than you would if you were dragging a keel along with you.
  •  So you get higher speeds giving greater range and can visit places that would otherwise be out of reach.
  •  There is an absence of heeling so it is more comfortable, level sailing than in monohulls.
  •  The lack of heel means that the sails do not spill wind and so acceleration is much greater.
  •  In practise the buoyancy of the leeward float and the weight of the crew, naturally to windward in a breeze, combine their effects to give the trimaran its exceptional stability.
  •  Unlike a catamaran which has one trampoline or one central platform the trimaran can offer you a spacious principle hull that is infinitely more comfortable and safe in use.
  • Trimarans can save you a lot of space when accommodated in a harbour, marina or on land so reducing storage costs. They are generally easy to trail making cruising in new and different areas easy.
  •  Their shallow draft permits access to places that keel boats cannot get.
  •  Trimarans are easy to manhandle ashore because of light weight.
  •  Light weight means also that small inexpensive and economical engines can be used when motoring.
  •  Superior handling. Easier to tack than catamarans.

"Compact" sport boat

  •   Such a lot of power in such a small boat offers unparalleled acceleration because trimarans do not heel in gusts like a dinghies do.

family beach tri

  • If you have a small family you will have a blast in this small beach trimaran. This is not ordinary dinghy. It is so light, nimble and so responsive. Kids just love sprawling on the trampolines or hanging from a trapeze.

single-handing

  • As with all the MAGNUM range, the controls come easily to hand. The light weight makes man handling ashore very easy when you are tired and alone after a long day enjoying yourself.

  • Easy to rig. The rig is simplicity itself and the boat can easily be sailed alone.

  • The new high profile main sail is a masterpiece. There is a batten at the foot of the sail instead of a boom, and there is no kicker. The furling jib and main sail add up to 16m2 and the 13m2 radial cut gennaker and 16m2 asymetrical spinnaker provide even more power.

 standard rigging

  • Retractable centerboard
  • Rotating aluminium mast
  • Retractable bowsprit
  • Furling jib with barber hauler
  • Racing composite rudder
  • Fore and aft waterproof trunks

options

  • Non standard hull colour (Standard is white)
  • Furling gennager kit 13 m2
  • Assymetric spinnaker kit
  • Telescopic tiller
  • Trapezes
  • Engine mounting
  • Road trailer
  • Beach trolley

ease of use

  • One of the Virusboats hallmarks is the ease with which all their boats, rowing and sailing may be transported, put together and used on the water.

  • No tools are ever required and speed and simplicity of assembly mean more time spent on the water enjoying yourselves. Rigging is deliberately kept simple so novices can appear like experts in no time.

  • Very easy to trail. Everything packs away to less than the width of your car in no time at all as it has a similar system to the post 2006 Magnum 21 for assembly.
  •

As you can see it is very simple. All that is required next is to close the clamps onto the float and you can drive away. No lifting, no strapping on, no checking and double checking. This is definitely in line with the VirusBoats philosophy of ease of assembly and ease of use leading to an increase in use of your boat.
