Magnum 21S

*

The sports version of

an exceptionaly gifted day-boat

The Magnum 21 has been fitted with a retractable center-board instead of a keel. This keeps the weight down and the speed up, and facilitates easy beaching of the boat. The easily retractable centerboard makes sailing Magnum 21 trimarans up to and onto a beach a natural activity.

Boosted version of the MAGNUM 21, the 21.S offer the same comfort and handiness adding more performances in all kind of weather in order to seduce more extreme sailors.

Handy and easy to use, the MAGNUM 21 is the day boat reference

with more than 400 boats afloat in the world.

For those who think that the standard boat suffer from a certain lack of power in light wind so the brand new MAGNUM 21.S bring the the solution: a 23m2 "High tech" rigging to take advantage of the planing hull in all weather conditions.

The 10m2 Genoa and the 29m2 asymetrical spinnaker are fully complementary as they allows the 21.S to give the best of herself in all weather and directions

Able to fly while the crew is still relax!

This kind of speed was formerly reserved to extreme

and demanding speed sailboats

You may not need this boat but when you see it, touch it, feel it - you will WANT it.

Trapezes are standard on the MAGNUM 21.S

   10 Squ.m genoa in a breeze.

Technically efficient but still reasonable, the rigging of the MAGNUM 21 S is using the PENTEX of the racing boats

The narrow shape of the main sail is giving his power to the boat

.

With larger beams to handle more power, the 2 x 1.30 meters trampolines also gives the possibility to put a tent on each side of the boat for the night

As you can see it is very simple. All that is required next is to close the clamps onto the float and you can drive away. No lifting, no strapping on, no checking and double checking. This is definitely in line with the VirusBoats philosophy of ease of assembly and ease of use leading to an increase in use of your boat.

A REVOLUTIONARY CONCEPT

SUCCESS STORY

Saluted by the press right from its launch, the Magnum 21 has very quickly demonstrated

the accuracy of its selection.

"Day boat", "Sport boat" or even "Family boat", as you like.

Convivial, affordable and with outstanding performance it constitutes

quite simply, the new standard for a new genre today.

FREEDOM

The MAGNUM 21 offers you, through innovative solutions, the liberty of changing your plans at will.

Imagine what you can do!

A new genre of day boat, the Magnum 21 quite simply relieves you of most of the constraints associated with a classic keelboat, such as

- the link to costly ports or the impossibility of finding moorings,
- awkwardness in lifting from the water and delicacy in transport,
- short range owing to limited performance…

Thanks to its planing hull, the MAGNUM surfes the waves instead of going through in a flight of spray.

It keeps a freeboard height which protects the crew.

Up to conditions exceeding by far those in which you will sail with your family, the MAGNUM shows an impressive tautness in sail.

It allows its crew to enjoy in the breeze, an effortlessly, but perfectly efficient abseiling.

WHY A DAY BOAT ?

It is well established that in reality the great majority of cruisers only sail in good weather during the holiday period and for short trips seldom exceeding a day. So cabins and bunks are an unnecessary encumbrance.

Why then invest heavily in the purchase of a costly yacht, the expense of whose upkeep represents, in some years, the price of a whole day boat…

Isn’t it more judicious to buy yourself the very day boat that is best adapted to the reality of pursuits ?

With the money you save you will be able to rent a great big keelboat for the family’s annual cruise !

   WHY A MULTIHULL ?

Simply because today this formula is the only one capable of providing all at once in a small boat the vital space necessary for comfort and performance.

Performance that enables you to sail far further than you would if you were dragging a keel along with you.

Equally because the multihull draws its stability form its great width and eliminates the various drawbacks of a heavy keel, which slows you down, prevents you skimming over pebbles or getting close into a beach and makes transport difficult and expensive.

(Under gennaker, sailing to Houat island, Brittany)

AND WHY A TRIMARAN ?

In the programme of a day boat, the ergonomics on board are an essential factor for comfort. Unlike in a catamaran, which is arranged with one trampoline or possibly one central platform, the trimaran can offer you a spacious principal hull infinitely more comfortable and secure in use.

Furthermore the handling of trimarans is well superior to that of cats.

That one of the Magnum is clearly incredible.

Comfort and efficiency...

    SPACE FOR ALL THE FAMILY

Particularly well protected, by the shape of the hull and the trampolines overlapping the gunwale, the giant cockpit of the MAGNUM 21 (more than 4m long) with integral self-bailing, open aft is equipped with a very large fore locker and a smaller aft locker.

It permits the comfortable embarkation of about six adults and their baggage. The depth of the cockpit and its integral footrest assure you of a royal throne. A little detail but an appreciable one, the trampolines are equipped with deep vertical pockets accessible whilst sailing.

The non-slip surfaces everywhere you can stand, even on top of the floats, add to the justifiable sentiment of security that you feel on board this boat.

EXCEPTIONAL VERSATILITY

To ally performance, comfort and security with a reasonable budget never before possible is no mean affair. Nevertheless we have chosen to add to it a facility for an outboard motor, hitherto unheard of in a true sailing vessel.

With a small short shaft outboard of 6 HP the Magnum achieves 8 knots. With a 9 HP it easily passes 10 knots !

In practice such things are important in the currents of the Atlantic or the “pétole” of the Midi.

THE SUPERB WATERLINS EXPLAIN ITS ASTONISHING PERFORMANCE
PERFORMANCES

Design by architect Guy SAILLARD  http://www.saillard-guy.com/

Longer than 21feet, the principle hull of the MAGNUM does not exceed 4 feet width at the water line. Combining this exceptional narrowness with a hyper-gliding stern shape and a minimal wetted surface area assures you of performance of the highest standard at all wind speeds, as much in light airs as in a strong breeze.

INCOMPARABLE STABILITY

With its 350 litres volume it requires the weight of more than four people on a float to submerge it. In terms of stability that signifies that the buoyancy of the leeward float is equivalent to the weight of four crew members sitting on the windward float !

In practice the buoyancy of the leeward float and the weight of the crew, naturally windward in a breeze, combine their effects to give to the trimaran its exceptional stability.

A TRULY TRANSPORTABLE BOAT

To benefit fully from the advantages of a transportable boat it is imperative to reduce to a minimum the time for rigging and de-rigging. Benefiting from the experience of the VIRUSPLUS, the MAGNUM can be assembled or disassembled (by two) in less than half an hour, effortlessly and without tools.

With a well-adapted road trailer, launching is a joy, easily achieved on your own. On the road or on the motorway you will only have to keep an eye on the speedometer…

Stepping the mast is not a detail but a duty. It is always tiring and now and then risky. But NOT with the MAGNUM 21 !

 A SIMPLE AND SURE STEP

With the foot of the articulated mast solidly in the central beam stepping the mast of the MAGNUM is as rapid and simple as it is sage. By utilising the halyard and sheet of the main sail, equipped with its tackle, stepping is within the scope of a young girl.

IT IS THE DETAILS THAT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

Quick release trampolines courtesy of exclusive buckles. Assembly of floats courtesy of stainless steel clasps. Furling jib and the price of the rapid reef system are included. So too is the engine mounting. These are the most innovative details, which make the MAGNUM 21 a boat so incomparably practical that you will seldom hesitate to carry out a sailing plan.
