Rotomold Polyethylene
Turbo II

Finishing touches Fiberglass
Turbo Skiff SL

Virus Boats is the first company to introduce Polyethylene material to the community of recreational rowers around the world. Virus has been producing small boats for over 30 years.

Basic differences between Polyethylene and Fiberglass Boats
Polyethylene
Fiberglass
Rotational molding is a fast growing mechanized plastic process used world wide. Fiberglass work is done by specialists, either hand laid or blown, or a combination of the two.
Rotational molding is an extremely reliable process that produces tough, durable plastic products with consistency. Fiberglass is a traditional process for boat building. The process employs fine hand craftsmanship and detail.
Polyethylene and Fiberglass specific to Virus Boats
Hull Thickness:
Polyethylene 4 mm
Fiberglass/Gel coat 3 mm
Weight: Approximately 30% heavier than the same boat in fiberglass Lighter weight than it's poly counterpart
Durability: Tough and durable, will withstand rough treatment and a more rugged environment Strong and durable with the beauty of elegant lines and a brilliant fiberglass finish
Affordability: Low production cost is passed on to the customer A slightly higher price for a beautifully handcrafted boat

 Rotational Molding

Compared to other types of molding i.e.: blow molding, injection or extrusion molding a rotational molded product:

  • Is lower in cost to produce, thus a price advantage to the customer.
  • Has lower molded stress levels, which improves impact strength in the product.
  • Has superior load bearing properties.
  • Is made of recycled plastic granules.
